The Benefits of Rebalancing
Rebalancing is one of the keys to being a successful investor with the main benefits being managing risk and keeping the portfolio in balance. But in periods where market volatility is elevated, there is a possible additional added benefit. Watch this video to find out what it is. Let me know what you think.

I talked about the benefits of rebalancing at my last Quarterly Investor Education Series. It was amazing to see the “light bulb” moment when my clients understood the purpose and reason for rebalancing.

The presentation kept reverting back to start at the 3:24 mark so I couldn’t see it in its entirety.

Mark, many say that the recovery that we are embarking on will be a wild volatile ride with little real upside in the values of the benchmarks we watch. I agree with you that the rebalance discipline is just another way that we can bring return if the market is frustratingly lateral but we will have more horses in the barn when particular asset categories rise quickly.
I would also like to have that article as well as this short power point. This would make a great quarterly coaching “short” for my clients.
Keep up the good work!

Mark, great stuff as usual. Thanks for all your hard work and research. Rebalancing is so key. Without it, we just are “another” advisor.
Here is the link from the Investment News article Mark is referring to: http://www.investmentnews.com/article/20090927/REG/309279988#

Now tell me, how do you get the clients to rebalance out of bonds when the $$ is not all systematically able to be rebalalnced. It takes an iron stomach. Not easy for investors indeed.

Mark,
Great stuff!!! We have been hammering this message out to our clients the last several months, infact we have a seminar in November on this very subject.

Mark,
This is so timely!! Our investors now “get it” about why we urged them to stay disciplined. I think Joe Matson said it best that they will be clients for life after we helped them get through the 2007-08 bear market. Now we need to continue to educate, and this is a key point most investors don’t understand. Please have the powerpoint and a reprint of the article available.
